As we enter 2012 and embark on our 10th year of weddings, I thought a great way to start off a successful year would be to hear from an EbD bride. Tess Gamboa (now Mrs. Tess Meyers!)\u00a0is one of the most creative, intelligent, talented and descriptive\u00a0bride’s\u00a0I have ever worked with! Here is a look back at her wedding…from HER perspective.<\/p>\n

\"bride<\/a><\/p>\n

As a television producer (bride) and lighting director (groom) in Hollywood, we knew we wanted our wedding to be dramatic, cinematic and unforgettable. \u00a0But unlike our industry, we didn’t want anything to be too flashy, showy or over-the-top. In Hollywood, everything is about appearances and we wanted our wedding to be more about substance. \u00a0It was important to
\nus to infuse our personalities into the whole celebration — who we are as
\nindividuals as well as who we are s a couple. \u00a0Here is the story of how we
\ncreated and directed our best production yet: \u00a0we had a limited budget and
\na tight schedule (ONLY TWO MONTHS!!) but what we accomplished was
\naward-winning…or at least, worthy of a nomination. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

All my life, I thought I’d have an ultra-glam
\nSex and the City wedding. \u00a0But, when Carrie Bradshaw marries a granola
\nGrizzly Adams type, a couple must compromise. \u00a0Whereas I tend to lean
\ntowards Louboutins, Andrew is always barefoot. \u00a0I thrive in the urban
\njungle, he is at peace in nature. \u00a0But we BOTH love our families, friends
\n— and dogs — AND we both love entertaining at home. \u00a0So much so, that
\nAndrew’s gourmet foodie tendencies earned him nicknames like “Chef
\nMandrew” and, yes, believe it or not, “Martha Stewart” during
\nour weekly dinners and BBQs.<\/p>\n

\"Barn<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Barn<\/a><\/p>\n

Our city mouse\/country mouse blend found the
\nperfect setting at the Santa Margarita Ranch on California’s Central Coast.
\nOur ceremony site was a lush green garden lawn, we wed beneath a huge oak
\ntree, the ranch was peppered with dozens of majestic trees – making the setting
\nlook like something from Middle-Earth, truly other-worldly. \u00a0The symbolism
\nof the tree was not lost on us; since I was a child, my father often gave
\ntoasts and prayers at holidays about the importance of a family having
\n“strong roots.” \u00a0Wedding beneath an oak tree represented these
\nstrong roots in the foundation of our family and friends, the trunk was the
\nunwavering support system, the branches the constant shelter and protection of
\nour loved ones. \u00a0The tree became our wedding logo.<\/p>\n

\"Bride<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Ceremony\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Ranch<\/a><\/p>\n

Our reception took place in the Ranch’s historic
\nbarn. \u00a0The building dated back to the 1700s and was the site of the
\nmeeting place between two missions, Mission San Luis Obispo and Mission San
\nMiguel. \u00a0With its breathtaking stone walls, lofted ceilings and rich
\nhistory, we knew the barn would be the perfect meeting place between our
\nfamilies as well. \u00a0It was the perfect place to pull off our “ballroom
\nin a barn.”<\/p>\n

***Andrew and I wanted a quintessential
\nCalifornia wedding, from the cuisine to the decor to the activities. \u00a0We
\nwanted casual elegance, a vintage vibe without being too hipster, organic
\nelements without being too cliche. \u00a0The personalized touches were
\nparamount to us, and as such, we worked day and night with our dream team of
\nwedding vendors and paid painstaking attention to every last detail.<\/p>\n

\"Groomsmen\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ranch\/Ceremony\/Train Ride:<\/p>\n

*Marquee – Ranch had an old marquee, initially
\nbelonging to the Santa Barbara Theater, with the phrase “Action! Comedy!
\nDrama! \u00a0Our Wedding Starring Tess & Andrew” and instead of
\n“The End…” \u00a0it said “The Beginning…”<\/p>\n

\u00a0*guests were treated to rides around the
\n14,000 acre ranch on a steam engine train, originally from Disneyland, only
\ntrain ever removed from the park!<\/p>\n

\"Wedding<\/a><\/p>\n

*”Just Married” pennant on the back of
\nthe train<\/p>\n

\"Couple<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Train<\/a><\/p>\n

*bluegrass\/rock band to surprise the groom<\/p>\n

\"Sprout<\/a><\/p>\n

*handmade signs thruout\u00a0“Wedding”
\n“Ceremony” “Reception” “Eat Drink Be Married”
\n“Next Stop: Happily Ever After” (groom and groom’s family,
\nparticularly his mother, made these signs)<\/p>\n

\"railroad*little wooden barn like a birdcage – opens up
\nfor cards (groom’s mother painted\/decorated)<\/p>\n

*rings – bride tied parents’ wedding rings to\u00a0handle of bouquet<\/p>\n

*veil – belonged to bride’s friend who was
\nkilled in a car accident 2.5 years ago<\/p>\n

*doggie processional\/”Best Four-Legged
\nMen” in the program; dogs wore matching gold\/ivory bridal collars and
\nleashes made by one of the “Canine Escorts”<\/p>\n

Cocktail Hour:<\/p>\n

*Signature Drinks: Mandrewtini & The Bridal
\nJulep<\/p>\n

*TypeWriter\/”Recipes” Table – instead
\nof a traditional guest sign-in book, guests instead left their “recipe for
\na happy marriage” typed on a vintage typewriter and put in an antique case<\/p>\n

*Unique Grand Intro -bridal party and bride
\n& groom disembarked off the train in front of the barn<\/p>\n

*giant group shot of all guests in front of barn<\/p>\n

*misc. signs\/quotes thruout – favorites of the
\nbride from the love songs, Broadway musicals, the Bible, etc.<\/p>\n

\ngroom’s mother is an artist and created clay likenesses of our two dogs as the
\ncake toppers<\/p>\n

*PHOTO DISPLAY – couple printed out almost 200
\nphotos, collected from friends\/family from special occasions and weddings of
\ntheir own. \u00a0Displayed them on large decorative wrought-ion\/metal
\nconcentric circles and large wooden hitching posts with clothespins and twine.
\nLarge sign near display that read “YOU ARE MY FAMILY” in a
\nvintage gold distressed frame.<\/p>\n

*Andrew made a lighting “gobo” so our
\ntree logo and monogram could be projected via light onto the exterior of the
\nbarn, the interior roof and dance floor as well<\/p>\n

*instead of traditional dessert table, Cold
\nStone Creamery had an ice cream bar (the couple LOVES ice cream)<\/p>\n

*and the one request the groom absolutely
\ndeclared a “must-have” a campfire\/firepit with all the s’mores
\nfixings in monogrammed bags with the tree logo!<\/p>\n

\"family<\/a>\"special<\/a><\/p>\n

I spent most of the night dancing under crystal<\/p>\n

chandeliers with my girlfriends, he spent most of it outside under the stars by
\nthe fire with the guys, his feet in the dirt. \u00a0But we always found our way
\nback to each other. \u00a0Wrapped up in each other’s arms, witnessing our two
\nworlds collide, guests grinning that the celebration was like every weekend
\nhosting in our backyard — except bigger and better! –\u00a0we realized we had
\nsuccessfully produced our “happily ever after.” \u00a0One princess’
\ncastle is another bride’s barn. \u00a0The Beginning…<\/p>\n
